The thread construction is a tightly spun, 3-ply Z twist, so it holds up well when you work with it, resisting splitting, unwinding, and spreading. Mainly designed for tatting, decorative stitching, button sewing, and buttonhole stitching; however, this thread can also be used for other applications, such as bead and pearl stringing, braiding, cord making, Cavandoli knotting, violin bow lapping, and fly tying.

This ultra-smooth thread has great elasticity. It glides through the eye of the needle and through fabrics easily. However, due to the Z-twist, if you are stitching with this thread, you may need to let out the extra twist that develops as you work with it once in a while. Embroidery floss and knitting yarn have generally an S-twist, whereas Z-twist is generally preferred for crochet and tatting.

The colors of the variegated colorways change approximately every 12 cm (4.5 inch), allowing for a variety of expressions with a single thread.
