Walk on the wild side... WildFire by Beadalon comes highly recommended as an alternative synthetic material for bead weaving and for leather wrap bracelets. It comes in 3 colors, black, frost white and in 'Camouflage' Green. The green is not carried widely online, yet it may be the best color as it camouflages against beads.

WildFire is made with a new synthetic material called Spectra and it has a smooth thermally bonded coating > More info on Spectra. It does not fray and has nearly no stretch. It's round, smooth, has the appearance of a monocord. It flattens a bit when pushed, can be knotted and is not easily pierced by a needle. It is waterproof, colorfast and fusible, so it can be melted with a thread burner.

Personal Note - Recommended by the Merchant Princess for her kits on Etsy... I have yet to use it, it just arrived. I am going to try it for a wrapped bracelet with 6mm gmstone beads with rough edges, then I will wear the bracelet every day for a while and let you know what I find. So far by looking at it and touching it, it appears like it will be very abrasion resistant, yet it is still a thread, so not as stiff as wire. ... Oof, I am fiber oriented!
